The game’s sometimes overwhelmingly negative reputation made it that much more surprising to see so many people rush to our comments section to defend Friday the 13th and say that it doesn’t belong anywhere near the conversation about the worst NES games ever. Some called it underrated, some called it ahead of its time, and some suggested that it might actually be kind of…good? As a lifelong fan of the Friday the 13th franchise and someone who grew up with the Friday the 13th NES game, I couldn’t believe that this infamous part of the series’ legacy was getting such love....

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a film that fires several ideas at you a minute. Some of them are profound; some of them are surreal; some of them are outright ridiculous; and some of them are all three of those things, existing in a nebulous five-dimensional space. One of those ideas, resting at the very heart of the movie, is the Everything Bagel. This existential enigma, first teased by Stephanie Hsu’s Jobu Tupaki persona, is an object whose ripples are felt throughout the film long before we learn what it is....

To celebrate Kirby’s contributions to Marvel, DC, and pop culture at large, The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center has opened a temporary exhibition in Kirby’s hometown of New York City (disclosure: this writer is a trustee of the Kirby Museum). Following one of the most infuriating cliffhangers in Fear the Walking Dead history, last Sunday’s season 6 premiere, “The End Is the Beginning,” finally confirmed that fan-favorite character Morgan Jones is alive and well(ish). Following an epic showdown with a no-nonsense bounty hunter with an affinity for big axes and baked beans, Morgan finds himself reinvigorated and dead-set on liberating his people from Virginia’s group of murderous trailblazers. While the second episode of season 6 won’t feature Morgan in the flesh, it will mark the directorial debut of Lennie James himself....

Young Justice: Phantoms is the title of Young Justice season 4. Producers Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti confirmed the title at the end of a radio episode set between seasons three and four of the hit show. The radio play was written exclusively for Fandome, and brought together series regulars Jason Spisak (Forager and Kid Flash), Khary Payton (Aquaman, Black Manta and others), Stephanie Lemelin (Tigress and the computer), Nolan North (Superboy and the indiscriminate grunting of Monsieur Mallah), Denise Boutte (Rocket), Danica McKellar (Miss Martian) and Crispin Freeman (the various and sundry Roy Harper clones running around Young Justice)....

New Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon’s official trailer opens with a description of a dream “clearer than a memory” that the dreamer clearly thinks is prophetic. Like many other fantasy worlds, there are dreams and prophecies scattered throughout Game of Thrones, but unlike most other stories, not all of them came true. Or did they? George RR Martin himself has called prophecies “a double-edge[d] sword” and suggests that “the more you try to avoid them, the more you are making them true....

Which is why the new music video, directed by Lance Bangs, deserves a little more than an all-star cast and a de-Phil Spector’d remix. The streaming giant today announced that it has canceled its two remaining Jenji Kohan-produced shows: GLOW and Teenage Bounty Hunters, according to Deadline. The latter’s cancellation comes after just one season and the former’s cancellation arrives despite the show previously being confirmed for a fourth and final season. In the case of GLOW, the cancellation comes due to the coronavirus-related shutdowns and the difficulty of producing a highly physical show based on professional wrestling....

Hacksilver, as the name suggests, are pieces of silver that had been hacked up and used as currency among the real world’s ancient Norse and Viking tribes. Quite fittingly, Hacksilver serves the same purpose in the God of War soft reboot and, most recently, God of War Ragnarok. Most transactions with the game’s resident blacksmiths Brok and Sindri involve Hacksilver. Want to upgrade armor and weapon pommels? You need Hacksilver in addition to specific upgrade materials....

In God of War and God of War Ragnarok, players can collect items called Runic Attacks and slot them into weapons. Each rune lets Kratos use a powerful elemental ability that can stun enemies, deal heavy damage, and control the battlefield. Runic Attacks can potentially change the tide of battle, and while they don’t rely on mana, they are balanced out by lengthy cooldowns. The trailer for Netflix documentary Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed doesn’t say much but still promises a lot. Only a little over 30 second long, the teaser clip features creepy chimes, telltale black and white true crime imagery, and the provocative text: “We want to show you the trailer for Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed but we can’t. Find out why on August 25.” Wow! Netflix, arguably the most powerful media entity on the planet, is so spooked at the raw truth of a Bob Ross documentary that it’s hesitant to even share it with the public....
