Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 5 At the start of tonight’s Game of Thrones, I settled in with a group of faithful “A Song of Ice and Fire” devotees, a cup of coffee in hand (these reviews don’t write themselves), and prepared for what I presumed would be a morning after comedown after last week’s giddy highs. For last week was a definite showstopper from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss that delivered a long sought-after Stark reunion, the highest of High Sparrow intrigues in King’s Landing, and a stunning replay of Daenerys Targaryen’s greatest hits from season 1....

Officially licensed Cobra Kai mobile game, Cobra Kai: Card Fighter, is set to arrive on March 19 for both iOS and Android. The game will retell the first two seasons of Netflix’s Karate Kid spinoff Cobra Kai. Users will be able to rebuild Johnny Lawrence’s Cobra Kai gym or continue the tradition of Daniel LaRusso’s Miyagi-do Karate. Via card-based combat, players can build up students to black belts and take on other senseis from around the world....

Now, whether this Eduardo Dorrance version of Bane is the actually, for real Bane that Batman will face (and get his back broken by) is still up in there; it has to be said that this Shane West portrayal of the man who might break the Bat certainly has a Bane like feel....

Of course we know what really happened: Thor, while a modest hit by modern Marvel standards, became a cornerstone of the MCU and Green Lantern—released on June 17, 2011—flamed out spectacularly, an inarguable bust with both critics and audiences alike. On the surface, the first live-action film based around the interstellar police force had it all: a well-liked leading man (Ryan Reynolds), a director with solid action credentials (Martin Campbell of Casino Royale and The Mask of Zorro fame), a strong supporting cast (Mark Strong, Blake Lively, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Peter Sarsgaard), and the kind of epic visual imagery made for summer franchises....

The journey of Garrity, his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and their diabetic son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd) as they try to reach an Air Force base and catch one of those flights to Greenland is the driving force of the film. The human melodrama is front and center, with the havoc caused by chunks of the comet arriving ahead of schedule relegated almost to the background. Greenland works surprisingly well — it left this writer a bit shaken at points — because it doesn’t flinch from showing us how regular folks will react to the imminent end of everything....

Perhaps some explanation is necessary. Filmmaker James Gunn, of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, DC’s The Suicide Squad, and upcoming HBO Max series Peacemaker, took to Twitter yesterday to report on some strange goings on in his Instagram direct messages. Unless Gunn went through the trouble of fabricating these messages as some kind of weird and wholly unnecessary publicity stunt for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (and to be clear: he definitely does not have the time for that), a dedicated Instagram user has been messaging him the exact same message multiple times per week for more than two years, without fail....

As the pandemic winds down, Marvel is opening the floodgates with endless movies they’ve been building up alongside their string of Disney+ shows. One of the big series on the horizon is Hawkeye, starring Jeremy Renner reprising his role as badass archer Clint Barton. The retired Avenger gives it one more go in a story inspired by one of his most popular comic book runs. Hawkeye Release Date Back at SDCC 2019 Marvel announced that Hawkeye would arrive in Fall of 2021, but it’s not yet clear if the COVID pandemic impacted that....

With 2021 grinding to a halt, Marvel Studios had one final gift to offer fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of its Hawkeye finale on Disney+. The episode, entitled “So This Is Christmas”, leans into the lyrics of the John Lennon song it appears to be referencing and hopes that the fighting will stop, and that the war will be over. “What have you done?” seems to have been a little out of the show’s reach, but we’ll get to that....

The Suicide Squad is set to premiere Aug. 5 on HBO Max. Yes, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Kinberg has signed on to write and produce the long-gestating Battlestar Galactica film. Kinberg is best known for his work writing and/or producing all of the X-Men movies after Bryan Singer left the franchise in X2. He will join Dylan Clark as a producer “Battlestar Galactica is one of the holy grails in science fiction, and I couldn’t be more excited about bringing something new to the franchise, while honoring what’s made it so iconic and enduring,” said Kinberg in a statement....
