Marvel’s Eternals probably has more heavy lifting to do than any other standalone MCU entry in years. With 10 leads, brand-new cosmic concepts that require a whole lot of dialogue to explain, a massive ending (which we explore in detail here), and the general sense that Marvel is looking to change the very fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward, there’s a lot to take in. And if that isn’t enough, Eternals goes ahead and introduces a new member of the Avengers in its mid-credits scene and then sets up another character for a heroic arc and the potential path to becoming a member of the Avengers in its post-credits scene....

Originally, the story behind his new arms was that Jax chose to get the cybernetic enhancements in order to better protect Earthrealm from Shao Kahn’s impending invasion. The unfortunate Mortal Kombat: Special Forces prequel also explained that Jax had experimented with prototypes over his arms to make it easier to knock out Kano’s teeth, a trial run for what would one day become a permanent upgrade. Little did his co-creators Ed Boon and John Tobias know that a simple visual upgrade would turn into something much worse for Jax, who was doomed to lose his human arms in increasingly gruesome ways for all eternity, including in the film reboot, which is set to explain once again how Jax ended up armless....

There’s a new Mortal Kombat live-action movie out on HBO Max, and it comes after nearly 30 years of games, cartoons, and movie adaptations. With such a long history to pick through, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the new movie has more than a few easter eggs and references to the series’ most famous moments and characters. Why wouldn’t there be? Why even make a new movie if you’re not going to throw your fans a bone or twenty exploding skulls?...

Per DC Comics, Ryan will appear in Batgirl #50, an extra-sized issue by Cecil Castellucci, Emanuela Lupacchino, Marguerite Sauvage, and Aneke set to hit stores and digital on Tuesday, October 27th, further integrating the brand new character into the fabric of the DC universe. At first glance, the decision to feature Ryan Wilder in the comics might not seem all that special. In this age of adaptation, characters are so often on the page before they appear on the screen, it’s hardly worth mentioning....

Around the World in 80 Days (December) Filming began in South Africa on this new eight-part adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic novel in February 2020, and was halted in March by Covid-19 with an episode and a half in the can, before resuming in early July, then finally wrapping in March 2021. The European-funded series aired just after Christmas on BBC One and starred David Tennant as Verne’s famous explorer Phileas Fogg....

Netflix has a few original series of note this month. The party begins with Kid Cosmic on Feb. 2. This animated series is a comic-tinged adventure from Craig McCracken, creator of the Powerpuff Girls. That’s followed by the Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl-starring Firefly Lane on Feb. 3 and Behind Her Eyes on Feb. 17. Perhaps the biggest sleeper this month, however, is Tribes of Europa. This post-apocalyptic adventure series premieres on Feb....

“We learned that the two of us can get real weird if we want,” Campbell tells us. So of course they’d keep the band together for some more weirdness: this time with the Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad: Blaze is a new comic from DC’s mature audiences, prestige format Black Label line coming in February from Campbell and Spurrier, and it promises to be every bit as weird as Hellblazer was....

Let’s start with the low-end GeForce RTX 3070. With its 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM, 1.73 GHz boost clock, and 5,888 CUDA Cores, the 3070 more than justifies its relatively low $499 price point. You’ll have to wait until October to actually buy one (or at least receive it), but the card’s specs make it a respectable upgrade at an equally reasonable price. If you’re looking for something a little more powerful, then the RTX 3080 may be for you....

It was easy to forget in the midst of all the action, but when Marc Spector and his alternate identity Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac) were done brawling with a gang of men who had information on the villainous Arthur Harrow’s whereabouts in Moon Knight’s third episode, something very important occurred, and it may well have been the first step towards a big twist later in the series. Marc and Steven didn’t get the details they wanted during the encounter, and they were very confused about how it wrapped up: with two of the gang dead, seemingly by their hand....

Each episode has flowed into the next with new puzzle pieces that contribute to the whole. New information debunks old myths, and speculation is always a healthy way to stay engaged during the days between fresh shows. With six episodes under our belts so far, it feels like a good time to investigate five potential culprits in this murder mystery. Let’s give it a shot! Mabel Mora Mabel (Selena Gomez) is an intelligent and introverted young woman who it is insinuated has kept to herself while living at the Arconia and has had an interest in solving crimes for the majority of her life....

Part of the reason this adaptation is so successful is that Paper Girls‘ comic creators Brian K. Vaughan (who wrote all 30 issues) and Cliff Chiang (who illustrated them) serve as executive producers on the series. Their involvement both legitimizes and endorses the show, which ambitiously attempts to build upon the time-jumping world that the comic so perfectly established. Since Peaky Blinders broke through on Netflix in the US, its creators have dropped hints about the Hollywood superstars lobbying for roles in the Birmingham-based gangster drama. Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson and more are all fans of the show, and apparently keen to come aboard. Those names don’t appear among the series six cast announced below (though who knows about the planned follow-up feature film), but it’s obvious that Peaky Blinders has no trouble attracting serious talent....

As per Disney, the film will be abandoning its current perch of Nov. 20 and skipping Thanksgiving altogether in order to be home in time for Christmas. With the film now officially slated to premiere on Disney+ on Dec. 25, the film is technically in competition with Warner Brothers’ Wonder Woman 1984 holiday tentpole, which is currently slated for Christmas Day but is expected by many industry watchers to move sooner rather than later....
