Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 3 Three episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds down; three episodes that have essentially hit it out of the park. I’m afraid I’m going to start sounding like a broken record here fairly quickly but this show is simply delightful from start to finish, and its character work is as deft and entertaining as its standalone adventures are fun to watch. This week’s installment finds the Enterprise crew investigating the site of an abandoned Illyrian colony, as part of a research attempt to find out what happened to them before they all vanished....

The first year of Kirk’s five-year-mission on the Enterprise is mostly missing. Although several non-canon sources have taken a stab at the moment when Kirk first took command from Pike—notably the 1986 Vonda N. McIntyre novel Enterprise: The First Adventure and the 1985 DC Comics story “The First Mission”—the actual non-book Trek canon has almost nothing. Basically, our knowledge of how the year 2265 shook out for Kirk and Spock is very limited....

Andy Serkis has been a genre mainstay for decades, portraying characters like Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, Alfred in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Ulysses Klaue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Supreme Leader Snoke in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. And Andor just added a second Star Wars credit to the actor’s filmography. Until Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) cut his character in half with a lightsaber in The Last Jedi, Serkis provided the motion capture and voice of the mysterious Snoke, Supreme Leader of the First Order and the unknowing puppet paving the way for Emperor Palpatine’s eventual return in The Rise of Skywalker....

There was always only one way Obi-Wan Kenobi could end: with the Jedi Master riding off into the sunset with his plot armor, Darth Vader defeated, and Luke and Leia back home safe. We know what comes next, too. In nine years, two droids will crash land on Tatooine with a message from Leia that will set both Luke and Obi-Wan on an adventure that will change their lives forever....

The first two parts of The High Republic, the adult novel Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule and the middle-grade novel A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland, will now release on Jan. 5. The young adult novel Into the Dark by Claudia Gray will hit shelves on Feb. 2. Dates have yet to be set for the new comics series from Marvel and IDW. “Now, I know that waiting isn’t easy....

Delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic forced The Mandalorian to skip a year, but the good news is that Lucasfilm is filming season 3 as we speak. Star Pedro Pascal, who’s currently very busy shooting HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation in Canada, even allegedly took some time to record dialogue for the new season in a studio in Calgary in the past few weeks. Mind you, The Mandalorian season 3 still won’t hit Disney+ until the second half of 2022 at the earliest, but at least we know it’s coming....

The Legends continuity of Expanded Universe books and comics spent a lot of time exploring Boba Fett’s later adventures after Return of the Jedi, and while those stories are no longer canon, it’s clear that Disney has long wanted to follow suit on screen — originally with a live-action movie and now with The Mandalorian. But it seems the infamous bounty hunter’s return won’t just be contained to one popular Disney+ series....

The Mandalorian finished up its second season on Disney+ this week – leaving Star Wars fans beside themselves with a mixture of glee and sadness – as Ant-Man director Peyton Reed returned to helm a storming eighth episode, and WHAT a finale it was. Din Djarin’s relentless quest to retrieve Grogu from imprisonment aboard Moff Gideon’s light cruiser reached its climactic moments in the finale, with Din (Pedro Pascal) not only having to contend with Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and his powerful Darksaber, but battling an escaped Dark Trooper before he could even reach the brig where Grogu was being held....

The Book of Boba Fett, a series that went nowhere for its first four episodes, has in the span of two weeks completely turned its fortunes around. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t know about, or has at least seen, a Hadōken or Shōryūken. Even though the moves are primarily associated with the characters Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Sakura, those attacks are so iconic that they are used as shorthand for Street Fighter references in other media. Audiences who have never played a round of Street Fighter more than likely know about the Hadōken or Shōryūken thanks to references in shows like Family Guy and Gravity Falls....

Superman & Lois Episode 7 It took seven episodes, but we’ve finally learned the secrets of the mysterious stranger who up until now has only been known as “Captain Luthor.” Since the first episode of Superman & Lois aired back in February, fans (and journalists) have been buzzing about the identity of the man under the armor who has been giving Superman a hard time, and lately, spending a lot of time with Lois Lane....

Superman & Lois Episode 10 Superman & Lois episode 10, “O Mother, Where Art Thou” picks up literally at the moment where we left the show last week, with Morgan Edge revealing to Superman that he’s not only a Kryptonian, but that he may very well be his brother. There was just enough ambiguity in that reveal to leave us wondering if Edge meant it metaphorically or literally, but as this episode explains, he really did mean it....

The Man of Steel of Superman & The Authority looks a little different than you might expect. Graying at the temples, a hint of smile lines around his eyes, and a capeless outfit that looks equally ready for some serious work in a laboratory or a super-powered street fight. It’s an older, wiser, Superman, sporting a look befitting a man with a teenage son and years of experience under his belt, and he brings all the patience and wisdom that you’d expect him to have as he reaches superheroic middle age....

One of the things Tales of the Walking Dead co-creator Channing Powell promised fans was something different. Powell said in an interview with Den of Geek that the show would “push the boundaries of the universe” and that the show “wanted to present a new option” for fans of long-running zombie television series The Walking Dead and its various spinoff properties. Given the sheer breadth of the franchise’s offerings, from the many web-only minisodes to the Talking Dead chat show to wrap up the night, that’s quite a task....

(Eye-roll forever.) However, the final hour’s most shocking revelation has to be the long-awaited return of fan favorite Alycia Debnam-Carey as Lexa....

The Batman has given fans plenty to talk about. But the most pressing topic of conversation may very well be Barry Keoghan’s character, billed in the credits as “Unnamed Arkham Inmate.” Shown only in a brief scene in Arkham Asylum, Keoghan’s character forges a bond with the Riddler (Paul Dano), suggesting that the two of them could be friends. And if there was any doubt about who this prisoner could be, all questions were drowned out by the sound of his blood-curling laugh....
