The news comes after Villeneuve’s first Dune picture (or “Dune: Part One” as the title card sneakily revealed in the finished film) became WB’s biggest opening weekend since the COVID-19 pandemic began, grossing $41 million in its first three days. That number, while obviously more muted than other recent blockbuster openings this month, was achieved despite the film also premiering day-and-date on HBO Max’s streaming service in North America. When coupled with the film already having grossed more than $220 million worldwide, Dune is a qualified success in the pandemic era, one which is apparently also serving HBO Max’s subscription model well....

Of course, this transaction raises obvious questions about what games Embracer Group actually gets out of the deal. Fargo Season 4 Episode 10 Fargo did itself a disservice with last week’s episode. By successfully presenting a small-scale, mostly self-contained story, it’s made this season’s sprawl and lack of focus more obvious. “Happy” is the penultimate episode of the season which means the season’s many threads need to start coalescing or ending, but unfortunately this doesn’t happen particularly gracefully. The timing on many of the episode’s plot points, like the introduction of the titular character Happy and Ethelrida’s reintroduction into the main story, feel like they are occurring far too late to make a significant impact....

For Supernatural, it’s a tale as old as time: Things are chaotic with no solution in sight and an apocalypse on the horizon. When everything seems hopeless, a path emerges, one where sacrifice is the only solution. Supernatural is known for this and we have watched on for years as Dean, Sam, and Cas sacrificed for each other and ultimately come out on top despite things looking grim. This time, Supernatural went a little too far with Castiel’s sacrifice for Dean and the rest of the SPN Family....

You don’t have to have any interest whatsoever in gangsters to get hooked on Gangs Of London. But you do have to have a strong stomach for violence. A nine-episode series, the pilot is feature-length and directed by the show’s co-creator (with Matt Flannery) Gareth Evans, the Welsh director behind The Raid films which brought the Indonesian martial art pencak silat to Western audiences....

As we first learned during this year’s virtual San Diego Comic-Con, His Dark Materials was forced to cut an episode from its Season 2 order in order to keep the season release on schedule. Luckily, the planned 8-episode season consisted of seven “regular” episodes and one standalone, set to follow James McAvoy‘s character of Lord Asriel. Production had finished on the seven “regular” episodes and filming had just begun on the standalone (like, they were on set, ready to go) when the call came to immediately shut down and send everyone home....
