The unveiling of the highly anticipated live-action Mulan movie on Disney+ seems to be a first step towards bypassing cinemas for the foreseeable future, and it will be interesting to see how successful the gambit is with a price tag of £19.99 attached to the experience. The film certainly has a strong cast, with Liu Yifei as Mulan, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in a supporting role. If the reviews are strong, funnelling Mulan straight to streaming globally in exchange for some extra cash from subscribers could be more of a win for Disney compared to its free release of Kenneth Branagh’s Artemis Fowl back in June. Branagh’s feature-length adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s bestselling book series is still rocking just 9% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yikes. Elsewhere in September, UK viewers will get a chance to catch up with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when the sixth season lands on Disney+ at the start of the month. There’s still no word on when the seventh and final season will appear, however. Last year’s animated pigeon comedy movie Spies In Disguise will also be available mid-month.
